Compare / Framer vs Wix

Framer vs Wix: which one should you actually build on?

Wix if you want the cheapest, easiest all-in-one site with hosting, email, bookings and a store bundled together. Framer if design quality, speed and standing out matter more than convenience. Most brands we work with are the second kind. Plenty of businesses are genuinely better off on Wix, and we will tell you when yours is one of them.

Quick verdict

The short version: Framer or Wix?

Wix is the better pick if budget is the hard constraint, if nobody on your team is a designer, or if you need bookings, email, a store and hosting bundled into one subscription with the least possible setup. Framer is the better pick if your site is a serious sales and brand asset, if you care about how it looks and how fast it loads, and if looking like every other template site would cost you.

Choose Framer when

Design quality, performance and standing out are the priority.

Framer gives designers near-total control over layout, typography, spacing and motion. It ships fast static sites by default and makes it realistic to build a site that looks genuinely custom rather than assembled from a template.

  • The site is a serious sales and brand asset, not a utility
  • Design quality and a bespoke look matter more than starting cost
  • Fast, clean performance is a requirement, not a nice-to-have
  • Professional differentiation from competitors on template builders

Choose Wix when

All-in-one simplicity and starting cost are the priority.

Wix is the most capable all-in-one small-business platform on the market. It does a lot, cheaply, and lets a complete beginner ship something real in a weekend. Native store, bookings, email and hosting, all in one dashboard.

  • Budget is the hard constraint and templates are acceptable
  • Nobody on your team is a designer and you need AI-assisted setup
  • You need native bookings, a store and email in one subscription
  • Getting something live fast matters more than a bespoke look

Wix is the most capable all-in-one small-business platform on the market. That is a genuine strength. What Wix trades for that breadth is design ceiling and performance. Framer trades the other way: a much higher design ceiling and modern interactions, and it assumes you either have design taste or hire someone who does.

Where Wix genuinely wins

What is Wix actually better at?

Wix is better at being cheap, being easy for a total beginner, and being all-in-one. If you need a real website plus hosting, a domain, business email, online bookings and a store, all managed from one dashboard on one bill, nothing does that more simply or more affordably. For a huge number of small businesses, that is exactly the right set of priorities.

Price

Wix has a free tier and paid plans that undercut the true cost of a well-designed custom site. If budget is the binding constraint, that is decisive, and no amount of design argument changes it.

Beginner-friendliness

Wix is the easiest serious builder to start from nothing. Drag and drop, a massive template library, AI-assisted setup, and you do not need to understand layout or hierarchy to get something live. Framer assumes more of you.

All-in-one

This is Wix's real moat. Bookings for a salon, a store for a maker, email campaigns for a cafe, all native, all in one place. Framer does websites. It does not natively run your booking calendar or your email list, and stitching those together with third-party tools adds cost and complexity that Wix simply absorbs.

Template breadth

Hundreds of templates across every industry. If you want to pick something that broadly works and go, the odds of finding a close-enough starting point are high.

If those four things describe your priorities, Wix is a real recommendation, not a rhetorical setup. The rest of this page is for the businesses whose priorities are different.

Where Framer wins

What is Framer better at, and who is it for?

Framer is better at design quality, performance and looking like nobody else. It gives designers near-total control over layout, typography, spacing and motion, ships fast static sites by default, and makes it realistic to build a site that looks genuinely custom rather than assembled from a template.

Higher design ceiling

This is the core difference. Framer is a design tool first, so the gap between "looks like the template" and "looks bespoke" is much smaller. Modern interactions, considered motion, real typographic control. On Wix, premium is achievable but you are working against the grain. On Framer, it is the grain.

Performance

Framer serves static pages from a CDN, so a well-built Framer site is typically fast out of the box, which helps both conversion and Core Web Vitals. Speed is a design constraint on Framer, not a plugin you bolt on later.

Clean SEO fundamentals

Framer gives you the control you need over metadata, structure and speed to do serious SEO work. Getting a Framer site to rank is a content and structure problem, not a fight with the platform.

Professional differentiation

In a category where half your competitors are on the same handful of template builders, a site that clearly is not templated is a cheap advantage. For considered-purchase and premium brands, looking like everyone else is a real cost.

The question that usually decides it: all-in-one, or a great website?

If your business genuinely runs on bookings, a store and email that all need to live with your site, Wix's all-in-one bundle is worth more than Framer's design edge, and you should choose Wix. If your site is mainly there to win trust and generate enquiries, and your store or bookings are light or handled elsewhere, then all-in-one is convenience you are overpaying for with design quality, and Framer wins.

A lot of platform regret comes from answering this wrong. Be honest about which one you are before you commit, because switching later is expensive either way.

Who builds it matters more than the tool

The platform matters less than who builds on it.

A great team makes an excellent site on either platform, and a weak build looks mediocre on both. Framer's higher ceiling only pays off if someone reaches it. In the wrong hands it produces the same templated result you were trying to avoid, at more effort than Wix would have taken.

We are a Certified Framer studio, so when a project points to Framer we build it as one integrated design, development and growth team of five, with no handoffs between the people who design it and the people who ship it. That is where the platform's design ceiling actually gets used. If you have decided on Framer, or you want us to pressure-test that decision, that is what our Framer development work covers. If your priorities point to Wix, we will say so, and you will not need us for it.

Moving off Wix is a rebuild, not an export. Wix is a closed system, so there is no button that ports a site into Framer or anywhere else. Content and images come across by hand or via CMS import, and the design gets rebuilt properly. If you already have a Wix site that has outgrown its ceiling, that move is a normal project and a natural point to fix the structure, not just the styling.

Common questions

Framer vs Wix, answered.

Not in the abstract, because they are built for different buyers. Framer is better if you care about design quality, load speed and looking custom, and if you have design capability to use its higher ceiling. Wix is better if you want the cheapest, easiest all-in-one platform, with native bookings, a store, email and hosting, and the gentlest possible learning curve. For a brand where the website is a serious sales asset, Framer usually wins. For a small business on a tight budget that needs everything bundled, Wix usually wins.

Wix is generally cheaper. It has a free tier and low-cost paid plans that bundle hosting, a domain, a store and business tools into one subscription. Framer also has a free tier and paid plans, but a bespoke Framer site typically involves design work that a template-driven Wix site avoids, so the total cost of a professional Framer site is usually higher. If price is the single deciding factor, Wix wins. If you are comparing the value of the outcome rather than the sticker price, the answer depends on how much the site matters to your business. Check current plans directly, since both platforms change pricing.

Yes, but it is a rebuild rather than an export. Wix is a closed platform, so there is no automatic migration into Framer. Recreating the site on Framer means rebuilding the design and moving content and images across manually or through a CMS import. Most teams treat this as an opportunity to redesign properly instead of copying the old site, since the rebuild work is happening anyway.

Both can rank, and platform is rarely the thing holding a site back. Framer gives you clean, fast static output and full control over metadata and structure, which are strong SEO fundamentals. Wix has closed the historical gap and its SEO tooling is now capable. In practice, content quality, site structure and speed decide rankings more than the choice between these two. Framer's default performance gives it a modest edge on the technical side, but a well-run Wix site outranks a neglected Framer site every time.
