Compare / Framer vs Webflow
Framer vs Webflow: an honest comparison.
For most marketing websites, Framer is the faster, simpler choice and the one we recommend by default. Webflow is the stronger pick when you need a deep, mature CMS, granular design control, clean code export, or you already live inside the Webflow ecosystem. Both are excellent tools. The right answer depends on what your site actually has to do, and we build in both.

Quick verdict
Framer or Webflow: which one should you actually use?
Choose Framer when
Speed, ease and native interactions are the priority.
You are shipping a marketing site, portfolio or company site and want it live fast. Non-developers on your team need to edit and publish without breaking anything. You want high-quality interactions and animation without wiring up third-party tools.
- Marketing site, landing pages, or portfolio that has to ship quickly
- Non-developers need to edit and publish without breaking anything
- Native interactions and animation are part of the brand
- Lower maintenance overhead, more time shipping
Choose Webflow when
Content depth, control, and code ownership are what you need.
You run a serious content operation with many collections and complex CMS relationships. You want granular, pixel-level control over layout and markup. Code export matters because you want to own the output or host it outside the platform.
- Large, structured content operation with complex CMS relationships
- Granular layout control and someone comfortable with the box model
- Code export for ownership or self-hosting outside the platform
- An existing Webflow ecosystem, team or integrations

Where Webflow genuinely wins
What does Webflow do better than Framer?
A more mature CMS
This is Webflow's strongest card. If you are running a large, structured content operation, many collections, nested references, complex relationships between content types, Webflow's CMS has more depth and more years of hardening behind it. Framer's CMS is good and improving quickly, but for the heaviest content models Webflow still leads.
Granular control
Webflow exposes the box model and the underlying markup directly. For teams who want to control every layout detail and every element of the structure, that ceiling is higher than Framer's. Framer trades some of that control for speed, on purpose. If you have someone who thinks in CSS and wants the reins, Webflow gives them more.
Code export and portability
Webflow lets you export clean code. If owning the output, or hosting it outside the platform, is a hard requirement, that is a real advantage Framer does not match. Most marketing-site clients never exercise this, but when you need it, you need it.
A larger, older ecosystem
Webflow has been the go-to visual builder for longer, so there is a bigger pool of developers, agencies, templates, integrations and community knowledge. If you want the widest hiring market or the deepest library of existing solutions, Webflow's maturity counts.
None of this is faint praise. For a content-heavy publisher, a large marketing team that wants full control, or an organisation already standardised on Webflow, it is frequently the right call.
Where Framer wins
Why do we recommend Framer for most marketing sites?
Speed to ship
Framer is built to get a polished site live fast. Less setup, fewer moving parts, a shorter path from design to published. For a marketing site where time-to-launch is the constraint, that is often the single biggest practical difference.
Ease for non-developers
After launch, your marketers need to edit pages, swap copy and publish, without filing a ticket and without breaking the layout. Framer's editing model is genuinely approachable for people who are not developers. Webflow can be handed to a non-developer too, but the learning curve is steeper and the box model leaks through more often.
Native interactions and animation
Motion is built into Framer, and it is one of its real strengths. High-quality scroll effects, transitions and micro-interactions come without bolting on third-party tools. On Webflow you can achieve a lot, but it is more setup for the same result. If your brand leans on feel and polish, Framer gets you there faster.
Less to maintain, strong performance by default
Framer's managed hosting delivers fast load times and strong Core Web Vitals out of the box, so SEO fundamentals like speed and clean rendering are handled for you rather than being your job. Less platform overhead means your team spends time shipping, not tending the tool.
Who builds it matters more than the tool
Does the platform matter more than who builds it?
That is how we work. Design, development and growth run as one integrated team, with no handoffs and no translation losses between the person who designed it and the person who built it. We think like marketers and build like engineers, which is why we start from what each page has to do before we decide what it looks like or which tool it runs on.
Because we build in all three, our platform advice is not a sales position. It is whatever fits your team, your roadmap and the actual job of the site, and we are happy to talk you out of the more expensive option when the cheaper one is right.

Common questions
Framer vs Webflow, answered.
Neither is better in the abstract; they are built for different jobs. Framer is better for marketing sites, portfolios and company sites that need to ship fast, look premium and stay editable by non-developers, with native interactions built in. Webflow is better for content-heavy sites that need a deep, mature CMS, granular control over layout and markup, or clean code export. For most marketing-site projects we recommend Framer, and we build in both, so that recommendation is not a sales position. The honest answer is that the better tool is the one that fits the job of your specific site.
Both are visual website builders with a built-in CMS and hosting, but they optimise for different things. Framer optimises for speed, ease and native interaction, so a small team can ship a polished site quickly and edit it without a developer. Webflow optimises for control and depth, giving you a more powerful CMS and finer command over the underlying markup, in exchange for a steeper learning curve. Framer keeps you inside the platform; Webflow lets you export clean code and host it elsewhere.
Yes. Framer handles the technical fundamentals that matter for SEO, fast load times, strong Core Web Vitals, clean rendering and managed hosting, out of the box, so your team is not responsible for performance tuning. It supports the on-page essentials: custom meta titles and descriptions, clean URLs, redirects, sitemaps and structured data. As with any platform, rankings still depend on content quality, site structure and authority, which is the work, not the tool. For a typical marketing site, Framer's SEO foundations are strong and rarely the limiting factor.
Both use tiered site plans, and the total cost depends on your plan level, whether you need CMS capacity, and how many seats or workspace members you have. Because both platforms change pricing regularly, we do not quote exact figures here; check the current plans on framer.com and webflow.com before you commit. In practice the platform subscription is usually a small line item next to the cost of design and build, so we would not choose between them on subscription price alone. Choose on fit first, then confirm current pricing.
